FBA Friday Morning Basketball League kick-off, Carlo Gavazzi and Selections teams score
Jeddah-Saudi Arabia
October 21, 2009

Jeddah: Filipino Basketball Association (FBA) Friday Morning Basketball League kick-off successfully last Friday at the Saudi Hi-tech compound here. This is actually the first ever Friday morning league in the history of FBA according to Edgar Mendoza, FBA president. In his speech, he also mentioned that Friday morning league was developed due to request and demand of most of the participating teams who have no chance to join in a major league at evening time due to conflict on work schedule.

The colorful parade of nine teams started at around 6:00am followed by a simple program led by Mendoza and FBA commissioner Abel Chavenia. A friend of Filipino basketball enthusiasts Mohammed Bayoumi a Presidential Banaag awardee was also present as special guest who also led the ceremonial toss to officially start the game.

We are really overwhelmed, in fact, we are expecting only 6 to 7 teams to join in this Friday morning league but we were surprised that we have presently 9 teams finally confirmed their participation and 3 more teams as of now are showing their interest to join, Abel Chavenia said. In this scenario, we are going to have two divisions for this Friday morning basketball league to make the games more exciting, he added.
