Jeddah - After two weeks of exciting games at Saudi Hi-Tech compound, the ongoing 1st Jollibee-29th FBA Basketball Tournament continues to draw a big crowd of basketball aficionados during weekends from five in the afternoon till midnight. Five successive games are played every Thursday and four on Friday to satisfy the basketball fans. Attracting more spectators are the good quality teams in the bona fide groups plus the reinforced divisions where the high caliber are all playing. This tourney is exclusively sponsored by Jollibee under Nesma Holding Company Ltd. through the initiative and good cooperation of Mazen Zaki Munshi (marketing manager), Faisal Y. Bamhrez (division manager) and Billy Junn Tabares (marketing officer). A total of 26 teams will compete in this prestigious event that will run for three months.

Early leaders in this three month long tourney with no loss are Sharbatly Corp., Sarco Shoaiba-A, American Garden, Rosewood Corniche Hotel, Saudi Hi-Tech, Zahid Tractor-Volvo, Alsalam International Hospital, Samir Group and Jollibee.
Thursday games results are as follows:
Radisson Blu of Danny Atubang and Joseph Austria defeated Fikra Printing Press team of coach Jun Lico (83-76). Top scorers were Soade 13 points, Junior 13, Borromeo 11 and Munozky 10 while the teamwork of Maestrado 21 points and Sierras 12 failed to overrule the stronger Radisson. American Garden team of Robert “Bob” Bato and coach Gil Cortez of bona fide strong division overpowered the defending champion Arabian International Co. (AIC) team of coach Noli Albis and team manager Emad Zagzoog in a final score of 104-84. The Disquitado brothers dominated the match with their strong defense and good shooting prowess over the key players of AIC. Disquitado J. got 36 points, Disquitado R. 20, Disquitado Jr. 17 and Dela Cruz 14 whereas Amir 23 points, Rosos 13 and Bison 11 for AIC. In another exciting game, Sharbatly Corp. of Alex Solero almost loses its game only by a hairline to Jeddah Fox team of manager Henry Loreto, 87-85. The game was so intense most especially in the last quarter when both teams were on tie in the last few seconds. It was only one second remaining when Tacuboy of Sharbatly sank the winning basket. Highest pointers for Sharbatly were Carido 27 points, both 14 for Tacuboy and Del Rosario and 10 points for Bartek while Amacato 24 points, Fernandez 17 and Vargas 10 for Jeddah Fox team. The fourth game between Jollibee of coach Arnold Atienza and Solid North of coach Art Oliva and manager Corly Obtinalla was another breathtaking game. Both teams are equally strong that recorded two deadlocks. The good performances displayed by Jollibee key players derail the attempt of Solid North to beat them. Coronado of jersey #20 stunned the audience of his good play and shooting prowess in the third and last quarter of the game that totally whipped Solid North to a final score of 77-73. Coronado also adjudged best player of the game with 20 points, Banag 12, Romano 11, Osorio, 10 and Galzote 8 while Sablad 20 points, Viscayno 14 and Llupar 9 for Solid North. In the final match, Fitaihi of coach Gerry Reyes beat the Fruit Ice Cream (FIC) team of Ian Jaramel 116-89. Top scorers for Fitaihi were Sanchez with 28 points, Llavore 16, Agustin and Mateo 12 and Villanueva 9 points and for FIC were Liwanag 24 points, Dologdog 23 and Garcia 14.

For the Friday games, the Can Consolidated Mfg. Co. (CCMC) team of Jonathan Santos posts its first win against the team of coach Benjie Patricio, Rommel Jugo and team manager Mohsen Al-Gbaa, 93-80. Dela Cruz of CCMC who recorded 20 points was adjudged best player of the game. BG Co.-Gulf Express of coach Jerry Carredo and Engr. Rey Mariano defeated Saudi Oger of coach Rusty in a final score of 106-80. Corilla with 22 points of BG Co. was adjudged best player of the game. Rosewood Corniche Hotel of coach Gilbert Borquin, Jun Casolita and manager Amro Hussein post another victory in their game against long rival Sarco-Jeddah team of coach Johnson de Guzman in a neck to neck battle, 89-82. Hotelier Jeffrey Reyes recorded 25 points and pronounced best player of the game for the second time. Final match was another breathtaking game between Samir Group of coach Gary Santos and team manager George Feliciano and Centrepoint team of coach Erwin Carpena. The game was a dingdong battle that recorded eight deadlocks, 100-89. The stamina and good play applied by Samir team prevent Centrepoint to overpower the former and succumbed in the last quarter when at the same time, key players of Centrepoint were foul troubled. Instrumental for Samir win were Jay Liam 36 points, David and Magpoc with 22 points respectively while Bryant 19 points, Philip 14, JP 13 and Mark 12 points for Centrepoint and adjudged best player of the game was Raffy David of Samir Group.
