Hello Mr. Flores,

Thank you so very much for sharing with me your web site. It made my day.

I left the Phil. when I was 22 yrs. old. From the Phil., I went to Europe, thinking I was only going to stay for a few months on vacation. I overstayed and from there, moved to New York City, then to Washington, DC and finally am now a "native" of Southern, CA. I went back home after 25+ yrs of being away.

Your website filled a big void inside me. I am so very grateful.

Always,
Nvraustin

Aloha Mr and Mrs Flores,

We have been exchanging emails for quite sometime now and it is nice to see your photo together. What you both are doing is wonderful. I went through all the photos and seeing them made me homesick of the Philippimes .

I am here in Hawaii simce October and visited my three daughters and their family. I am not sure if there is any Filipino organization here but there are several of us who gather together often. I am going home next week to the Philippines and I will tell my daughters and their friends to have an activity together and form an organization.

My daughter Eliza May Villanueva Shumwaywas voted Young Mother of the year of 2005 and Represented the State of Hawaii, and a close friend Bennette Misalucha Evangelita was voted Mother of the Year a couple of years back represented Hawaii to the America Mothers Inc. Selection was based on their achievements as a homemaker, personal integrity, and community service.

I will ask my daughter to send some photos of such. Here in Laie, Hawaii Latter-Day Saints Filipinos come to Brigham Young University to get their Bachelor's degree as Scholars. Most of them go home to the Philippines and some get married while in school. Two of my daughters here are members of the Concert Choir of BYU-Hawaii.This Choir toured Korea and Japan ,and the Phils. But the Japan and Korea Tour was famous because they were allowed by the Japanese Religious group to sing in their temple,

Thank you for the work that you do --making us connected.

May the Lord bless you with good health, and Happy Valentine to you both.

dear editor

Thank you for including me in your list - this is the 2nd time I have received this e-newsletter.

I read with interest all the articles and marvel at how Filipinos are always at the forefront of doing great things in their "new" homes yet continue efforts to help their countrymen back home.

I am interested to offer the programs of our school and as a way of introduction, invite you to visit our website at www.saidi.edu.ph.
Should our programs be of interest, I am willing to contribute short articles, snippets of interest to our kababayans in the interest of continuing education and community efforts that you may be interested to collaborate in.

Will appreciate your feedback and hope to continue correspondence with you.

Thanks,
Apple de Luna

Dear editor,

My wife Corazon showed me your newspaper and I enjoyed reading it. My compliments you are doing a great service.

We are in Canada and members of the Rotary and I am a Past District Governor of a District in Canada and the U.S.A.

For a number of years I work strictly for the poor in the Philippines and specially for children in the Cebu area.

Please note my below listed website. Can you put me in touch with Carlos Arnaldo, I believe we have a common interest.

And may be we can help each other.

Thank you for your help.

Dear Editor,

Thank you for including me in your mailing list. I find your news magazine very informative and interesting, having been a migrant myself for some time in Europe.

I am interested to do a research work about Filipino migrants in Europe and I would like to know the possibilities of working with you or your group. The research would have something to do with action research on development issues. I hope we could partner with you or with groups affiliated with you on this regard.

Once again..Congratulations for accomplishing so much good for our kababayan and our Bayang Pilipinas!

We hope that this will start a correspondence among us and the possibility of working together.

dear editor

am very impressed with the stories you've got.

is your magazine also printed or just in the website? mine is actually just my own effort and published under the ausdpices of the polo-owwa. it is mainly for the filipinos in tripoli who i hope will open up their eyes and minds to the ideal of being filipino. i dont know if am succeeding but am trying my best. incidentally am a nurse so i hardly know anything about writing either except keeping my grammar coherent.

can i possibly use the stories you sent me?

incidentally can you include an annnouncement that the chong hua hospital school of nursing graduates 1975 would like to celebrate their alumni homecoming jan 14-18 2010.
thank you so much. id highly appreciate.

dear editor,

Greeting from Houston Texas.

I'm really amazed that you have a vibrant Filipino community in northern Europe. When my wife and I took a Rhine river cruise three years ago, and we were going through these countries, I was wondering if I could meet Filipinos. All the while, you are all there. It was just a matter of good fortune to get me bumping upon any one of you. hehhhehhe

I enjoyed immensely reading the articles, including from the archives.

Thank you for sharing with me your life in the land of the Vikings.

Lope

ANNOUNCEMENT:

An Olivia M. Lamansan film:

"THE MISTRESS"
Set for showing on September 28 all over Canada

It was Yuletide season, a good time for another family reunion in the Philippines.  We celebrated Christmas Eve at my brother Danny and his wife Cindy’s house.  Cindy’s sisters Annie and Bettina hosted Christmas lunch.  Our holiday meals were both delightful and generous.  It was time for some physical vacation activities.  Our destination – Coron in the province of Palawan.

Coron is remote.  We took three modes of transportation to get there - by air, land and sea.  Our big family tour group flew from Manila to Busuanga Island just north of the island of Palawan, then rode two vans through hills and dirt roads, before taking two motor boats to reach our secluded vacation hideaway by the beach.  The skillful boatmen waded and pushed the two small crafts as we passed through shallow waters between mangroves.

Art books often advice beginners to copy the works of the masters as a way to improve their painting skill. The reason is that one can't paint a good picture until one has seen a good picture. During their formative years, the masters themselves copied from their more advanced peers.

I actually witnessed this copying phenomenon in our visit to the Louvre some years ago. The sight of artists, both novices and professionals, busy with their palettes and brushes was as spectacular as the masterpieces they were trying to replicate.

Great as it may sound, this training methodology, however, is not always possible especially for those of us with no easy access to museums and galleries. But, such working procedure could be approximated using images from art books or other sources as substitutes. It's true, prints of paintings are seldom as excellent as their original, but, for learning purposes, they would do.
