Chicago - The 37th annual Art in the Barn juried fine art show selects renowned Filipino American avant-garde artist, Fred DeAsis, to judge the one of the finest and well attended art fair in the America. The fair will be held on the grounds of Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Illinois September 24 - 25, 2011.

Fred DeAsis is one of the most prolific Filipino American artists in America. He is well known for his traveling cultural art exhibits, workshops, and Philippine ancient art and culture lectures in universities and other learning institutions. He was the recipient of many awards from civic organizations and communities for outstanding achievement in promoting arts and culture across the country.

In 2010, he received the much coveted CFO Presidential Award from the president of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino III, for outstanding achievement and service in the field of Arts and Culture. The international award is given every two years to highly selected individuals and organizations for their outstanding achievements on their given field. Last year’s awards were presented to 24 recipients from 13 countries. Last year, over 8,000 visitors from various states and surrounding communities attended the prestigious fair. “Most of the top ten and best of show from 2010 will be there,” said Kerin Montgomery, Chair of the Artist Committee.
A total of 170 artists, of various discipline were juried this year. Fred DeAsis aims to promote the Philippine art and culture to mainstream America. In June, he launched a new Filipino art form "Kutbayin" at the Instituto Cervantes in Chicago. He is participating in the group exhibition of Filipino artist at the Chicago Pedway gallery in the month of October. Sponsored by the Auxiliary of the hospital, the event appeals to all ages. In addition to browsing the many indoor and outdoor art exhibits, visitors have other options: a brat tent and vendors offer choices of food, children art activities and pony rides to please the young set, and entertaining groups perform about every hour.
Art in the Barn has generated more than $2.5 million dollars for Good Shepherd Hospital. It has benefited the Cardiac Care Center and the Emergency Department Expansion at Good Shepherd Hospital in addition to providing scholarships for college students pursuing degrees in the field of health care.
