The book donation, just like the summer arts camp, is part of the many corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives of the Rapu-Rapu Polymetallic Project (RRPP), largest copper-zinc mine in the province of Albay.
On March 6, this year, RRPP launched
Yudi Man at Rapu-Rapu Central Elementary School and Carogcog Elementary School and introduced the art of storytelling to promote love for reading books among schoolchildren.
Both
Gipaw (arts camp) and
Yudi Man (art of storytelling) are CSR activities conducted jointly with the NCCA and DepEd through the Community Development Assistance Program (CDAP) of RRPP.
Also in April this year,
CDAP initiated the conduct of
Kurit Lagting, a visual and graphic arts workshop, at the Sorsogon National High School, a follow-through of the province-wide campus journalism training for high school students in the province of Sorsogon that RRPP also supported in December last year.
Aside from this, the mine project extends REACH scholarships and distributes free school supplies to deserving Rapu-Rapu elementary, high school and college students every school year, also through CDAP.

Prof. Feleipe M. de Leon, chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), receives a certificate of appreciation from Vice President Cecile A. Calleja of Rapu-Rapu Minerals, Inc, at the closing of Gipaw arts camp, for bringing NCCA arts and culture services, books and publications to the public school students of Rapu-Rapu, Albay.
