EMBASSY IN RIYADH CONDUCTS FLAG RAISING CEREMONY; ANNOUNCES 2 OFW SCHOLARS DURING THE PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – As part of the Embassy’s celebration of the 114th Philippine Independence Day, a Flag Raising Ceremony was conducted at the Liwasang Bonifacio Grounds, Diplomat Quarter in Riyadh on June 12, 2012, 7:30AM.

Hon. Ezzedin H. Tago, during his closing remarks, announced that two (2) OFWs has successfully granted Scholarships for Master’s Degree Program sponsored by the Custodian of Two Holy Mosques, His Excellency King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz. Errol and Donald, both working in NADEC, personally applied in the University offering the said Scholarships Program.
The Ambassador also informed that the Scholarships for Master’s Degree is open to all Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who wish to pursue higher education. Applications must be submitted directly to any of the Universities in the Kingdom, without prior approval from the Embassy, to which, one University could accommodate maximum 150 scholars, depending on the desired category.

Meanwhile, Sbetlana Khyn S. Sese led the singing of Lupang Hinirang and Jon Nelson S. Dela Cruz for the Panunumpa sa Watatawat ng Pilipinas. Sese is a senior student at International Philippine School in Riyadh (IPSR) while Dela Cruz is a sophomore student at Riyadh International School (RIS).
On the other hand, Reading of Messages coming President and Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines, Secretaries of Foreign Affairs and Labor & Employment and OWWA Administrator, was read by Embassy Officials.

Also, a special rendition of patriotic song was rendered by Mrs. Mae Galvez, Champion in the recently concluded ASEAN Singing Competition.
Embassy Officials, Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), International Philippine Schools and various Filipino community leaders and organizations graced the event. It was hosted by Mr. Mohamad Taha A. Guinomla, Cultural Officer.
