ROSEMER ENVERGA RECEIVED QUEEN ELIZABETH II 60TH JUBILEE MEDAL

There were so many pleasant surprises at the Pinoy Fiesta & Trade Show last June 9 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, one of the more notable ones are the announcement of the pledge to donate over one Million pesos for the  needy  in the Philippines by the Philippine Canadian Charitable Foundation (PCCF) and the other one is the announcement by a member of the Parliament, Corneliu Chisu, that Rosemer Enverga, the EVP and Marketing Chair for the Fiesta will receive  the Queen Elizabeth II 60th  Jubilee Medal.

Rosemer Enverga received the medal the same night and with a certificate that indicates “… for your outstanding community and charitable involvements….” Rosemer led  various major fund raisers that benefited the poor and the needy in the Philippines and Canada.

Rosemer Enverga humbly received the award and indicated that the award is not her alone but also for all the members of PCCF and other organizations that supported and believed in her.

It was Yuletide season, a good time for another family reunion in the Philippines.  We celebrated Christmas Eve at my brother Danny and his wife Cindy’s house.  Cindy’s sisters Annie and Bettina hosted Christmas lunch.  Our holiday meals were both delightful and generous.  It was time for some physical vacation activities.  Our destination – Coron in the province of Palawan. 

Coron is remote.  We took three modes of transportation to get there - by air, land and sea.  Our big family tour group flew from Manila to Busuanga Island just north of the island of Palawan, then rode two vans through hills and dirt roads, before taking two motor boats to reach our secluded vacation hideaway by the beach.  The skillful boatmen waded and pushed the two small crafts as we passed through shallow waters between mangroves.

Still Life with a Crab
Sometimes, ideas for a painting come from unexpected places. I was browsing once through the Facebook album of my cousin-in-law when I came across her orchid collection and pictures of a giant crab as big as a placemat.

It immediately hit me that the flowers and the crustacean could become the subject of my next still life painting. I had never painted a crab before and my previous orchids, although looking like orchids, certainly needed to look more like orchids.

I started picturing in my mind all imaginable arrangements involving the two with the crab as the main element and the orchids as supporting cast. When I had chosen a definite composition, I immediately sketched it on a drawing pad and there was nothing that would stop the painting process from then on.
