The Board of Directors, Officers and Members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce-Toronto extend and share their hearfelt congratulations to board director Joseph Alilio as the recipient of the 2012 Young Entrepreneur Award from the Filipino Centre Toronto (FCT).
The FCT panel of judges chose Alilio, with two other recipients in the field of the professions, for his role in restoring back the confidence of the Filipino community in the parcel delivery industry known in the vernacular as “balikbayan boxes”.
Most of us will recall that sometime in 2002 to 2003, the business of “balikbayan” boxes in Toronto was in jeopardy. This was mainly because of all the anomalies committed by some of the entrepreneurs involved in the industry themselves.
During that time, countless customers in the Filipino community who availed themselves of the service suffered huge unforgivable blow when not one, but two or three, if not more, of these businesses could not account for their lost “balikbayan” boxes. This anomalous situation finally took its toll on some of these businesses. It was not just the erring companies which suffered, but the industry in general for lost of the public’s confidence on the service.
Among the companies affected was Forex Parcel Services.
Amidst all this, Forex appointed Alilio as its Chief Operating Officer to turn around Forex and regain back the confidence of the people on the service by using, firstly, Forex Cargo, as his platform.
Drawing his strengths and confidence from his academic background in Business Management and his experiences from his family’s business in the Philippines, Alilio was able to turn around Forex – perhaps the leading company in the industry today, back on its feet and shipping out two to three containers a week for customers’ families in the Philippines.
