Studio Six Productions and Infinity Entertainment in cooperation with Mary Kay Cosmetics present an evening with newcomer Ashley Suva (or Ashley) in a solo concert titled “Think of Me” at the Square One Auditorium in Mississauga on Saturday, September 29th at 7pm.

A student of Leander Mendoza, and Josie de Leon of the Josie De Leon School of Performing Arts (JDLSPA), Ashley is stepping out on her own in her first solo show that promises an evening of entertainment showcasing her versatility as a singer. “Think of Me” will showcase a plethora of different songs from different genres; from my classical pop, classical, classic rock, folk, modern pop, and selections from musicals! She describes it to be a “potpourri” night of music for everyone!

Ashley was fist bit by the entertainment bug a few years back when she first performed in New Jersey at Christmas party for FCQ. Since then she has performed at the Filipino Making Waves Festival at the Toronto Harbourfront (although as a back up dancer), other Christmas concerts, and on TV with vocal mentor and teacher Leander Mendoza.  She also donates her time and talent at St. Bartholomew Church for their Dining with the Saints dinner events.  In the Filipino community, she has performed with the Ladies of Rizal events and numerous flag raising events at Nathan Philips Square and Thompson Park during Philippine Independence Day events.

As with many young Filipino talents, Ashley looks to singers like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Maria Callas, Regine Velasquez, and Syliva LaTorre as her vocal influences. She hones in on their style, musical interpretations and command of their vocal prowess to guide her in her own vocal journey. She has not thought of performing in theatre due to the strict timely demands of the business but enjoys exploring the genre in preparation for the upcoming JDLSPA showcase on August 11th at Celebration Square in Brampton.

When asked what she wants to be as a performer, Ashley says she “just wants people to have fun listening [to me], not only as a performer, but as a teacher as well”. As a teacher at JDLSPA, she [Ashley] feels that she is most accomplished and happiest when she is able to have her students aspire to excel as performers and singers. She explains that “Think of Me” is neither a timeline nor a journey in her young musical career, but what she has learned so far; adding that she wants to show people what she can do as singer and as a performer.

Ashley says “singing is something I do on the side and not looking to become famous for now. I am very blessed to know people who allow me to have a music outlet. Hopefully, [my show] will be a night of memories, fun, and laughter, dancing and lots of singing along like I was celebrating my life with my family in my biog living room.”

Joining Ashley in “Think of Me” are fellow Filipino local talents including NMP, Rita Tabago and Glenn Sevillo.

It was Yuletide season, a good time for another family reunion in the Philippines.  We celebrated Christmas Eve at my brother Danny and his wife Cindy’s house.  Cindy’s sisters Annie and Bettina hosted Christmas lunch.  Our holiday meals were both delightful and generous.  It was time for some physical vacation activities.  Our destination – Coron in the province of Palawan.

Coron is remote.  We took three modes of transportation to get there - by air, land and sea.  Our big family tour group flew from Manila to Busuanga Island just north of the island of Palawan, then rode two vans through hills and dirt roads, before taking two motor boats to reach our secluded vacation hideaway by the beach.  The skillful boatmen waded and pushed the two small crafts as we passed through shallow waters between mangroves.

Time is a very valuable thing we cannot afford to waste.  In today's gangrenous economy we can't afford to squander time for it is the very thing life is made of and it's what we are paid for.  We need to find time for anything that is worthwhile instead of whiling away with time.  We must use time...
