Pilipina sa Holland: Ipagdiwang Natin ang Ating Kalakasan
International Women’s Day Celebration 2012 organized by Stichting Bayanihan
Utrecht-The Netherlands
March 30, 2012

In 1910, Clara Zetkin (Leader of the 'Women's Office' for the Social Democratic Party in Germany) tabled a proposal for an International Women’s Day during the second International Convention of Working Women held in Copenhagen. This proposal, which was born from the desire of women in the socialist movement to have their demands on political inclusion, economic equality and personal autonomy recognized by society, was granted approval by a conference of more than 100 women from 17 countries. Since then, International Women’s Day has been celebrated every year as a day that helps to push women’s issues onto the political agenda.

In the Netherlands, International Women’s day is celebrated in different cities and towns with fervor and enthousiasm. As an active Philippine women organization, Stichting Bayanihan is doing her share in making the issues of the Filipinas visible.

A passionate educator, mother and wife are words that I best describe myself. Having been in the field of early childhood education for more than a decade now, I feel I have some insights to share with families, particularly women who are raising their children in a multicultural family.

I graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree on Family Life and Child Development. My experiences include preschool and collegiate level teaching, giving trainings to educators and parents, as academic consultant for preschools, and my current life role now- a devoted wife to my loving husband, a mother to a 16 month old, and soon to a little bundle of joy to add to our family.

In here I write about my experiences as a mother, wife and educator ---all a part of my new life in a new land and with new challenges.
