Bratislava: The Fairy Tale City
The Netherlands
March 22, 2010

There was something of Bratislava that mesmerized me. I knew this was going to be a love affair with the capital of Slovakia. The city has a certain allure that made my heart beating while walking around it. It is quite small that one’s experience with the surroundings becomes too intimate.

Bratislava was never in the minds of tourists specially when Slovakia was part of Czechoslovakia. Imagine being one country from 1918 to 1993! Obviously the capital Prague remains in the hearts and minds of people being always in the limelight, no wonder. (Besides Bratislava is just one hour away from major capitals Vienna and three hours from Budapest which overshadowed it.)...

Verbal Diarrhea
J. Nava Cruz
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
March 22, 2010

As May 2010 National Election comes closer, our country once again face an avalanche of ‘verbal diarrhea” coming from all directions. Day after day, our much eager politicians running for government positions, locally and nationally, along with their respective parties, are bombarding the entire Philippine archipelago, especially the new-young-voters, with blueprints of their ‘platform of government’. The whole political atmosphere offers tons of rhetorics carrying array of promises, which most of the times cannot be fulfilled — a state of affairs that is very much obvious and prominent in the shark-infested water of Philippine politics. ...

Historic Moments in Our History
The Battle of Mactan, APRIL 27, 1521
Jose Sison Luzadas
Delray Beach, FL
March 19, 2010

The best source of the battle is the accounts kept by Pigafetta, who was the chronicler in Magellan's voyage. In describing the battle, Pigafetta pictured himself helplessly watching his brave captain valiantly fending off Lapulapu's men to give time and opportunity for his soldiers to climb aboard the ship safely, depart and save their lives. Mortally wounded, Magellan was was left behind and died while fighting in the waist deep shores of Mactan....

New Column: The Philippine Lawyer

In 1995, Marian went to work in Calgary as a caregiver.
Eventually she got her Canadian citizenship and was later able to bring her only sister Grace to Canada. Through their hard work, they were able to save enough money to buy a 400 square meter lot in Cebu City which they intended to construct an apartment building. The sisters agreed in writing that the property will be divided equally and that Grace would own the South side and Marian the North side of the land. Unfortunately, before they were able to start building the apartment, the sisters found out that they were both dating Amadeo, their dance instructor. A bitter fight ensued and the sisters went their separate ways. For years they refused to talk to each other....

Golden Reunion – Marcelo H Del Pilar High School (MHPHS)- Class 1960
Malolos-Bulacan
March 12, 2010

KOR DIAMOND ANTWERP BELGIUM CELEBRATED 10TH CHARTERING ANNIVERSARY
A TRIP TO PANGASINAN – A TRAVELLER’S ACCOUNT
Scarborough-Ontario-Canada
February 14, 2010

In the few times I had traveled in some part of Central Luzon, to be more specific, in some sections of different towns in the provinces of Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac and Pangasinan, this was the first time I decided to chronicle my travel while riding in a private form of transportation - a van. My eyes and my mind were the only source of information, a notebook and a mechanical pencil the only instruments to record it. Destination: Bani, Pangasinan - my wife's hometown.

Compared to North American standards of travel, the trip was slow, probably spending more than twice as much time traveling a certain distance. It was also laborious to the driver because of the many stops and go he had to make. But it was this pace of travel that I needed in order to observe and record; to give my opinion; to think and write; and to recollect, in order to connect those observations: by comparison; through similarities; through contrast, to some of my personal experiences, in my youth and in my other travels....
